Closest match in other brands

Enter a paint name, a color code, or a hex value. The nearest colors from the other brands in this set are ranked by CIEDE2000, and each result shows the delta E.

Screen colors are approximate. Check a physical sample before you buy paint. A delta E here is a distance between screen colors, not an official brand match and not a spectrophotometer reading of the paint.

Try Agreeable Gray SW 7029, White Dove OC-17, Swiss Coffee, or hex D1CBC1.

How the distance is calculated

Each color page stores the hex copied from that brand's own color page. This finder converts that hex to CIELAB under D65, the same conversion the color pages use, then compares those Lab values with CIEDE2000. When you search a color we already have, colors from its own brand are left out, and the rest are sorted by delta E. The bands (under 1, 1 to 2, 2 to 3, over 5) are the ones on the methodology page. They describe the screen math. They do not promise the paints will look that close on a wall.

Nothing on this page adds a color. If a name is missing, it is not in the stored set. Open a result to see the brand page the hex was copied from, and the date it was retrieved.

If you are choosing a color for a room guests will use, the holiday hosting guide lists colors from this set with the LRV each brand publishes. The cure-time guide counts dry, recoat and wash times from product sheets against the 2026 dates USPS and Amazon Shipping publish. Neither page is a deadline to buy paint. Gallons for the room are a separate calculation: the paint quantity calculator.

Before you buy paint

Order a sample of the finalists and look at them in the room. The samples page explains peel-and-stick sheets and sample pots. Supplies below are for that test, not a price for the paint.

A screen distance is not a substitute for a sample under your own bulbs.

Questions

How does the closest-match finder choose a color?
It converts each stored hex to CIELAB (D65) and ranks colors from the other brands with CIEDE2000. The smallest delta E is the nearest screen color in this set. It is not an official brand equivalent and it is not a spectrophotometer reading of the paint.
Can I search with a hex value?
Yes. Enter a 6-digit hex, with or without a hash mark. If that hex is one of the published colors in this set, the finder starts from that color and skips its own brand. If it is not in the set, every published color is ranked against the hex you entered.
What does delta E mean here?
Delta E is the CIEDE2000 color difference. On this site, under 1 is very hard to tell apart, 1 to 2 is very close, 2 to 3 is visible side by side, and over 5 is clearly different. Those bands describe the screen calculation. Two paints can still look different on a wall. Screen colors are approximate, so check a physical sample.
Where do the color values come from?
Hex values are copied from each brand color page. This finder does not add colors. The color page for a result links the source and the date it was retrieved. CIELAB values are calculated from those stored hex values.
